Your data, plainly
Privacy policy
What we collect, why, who we share it with, and the choices you have. The short version: we collect what we need to run the directory, we don’t sell your data, and payment details stay with our providers.
1. Who we are
LaunchKoala is a directory where makers submit and launch products. This policy explains what we collect, why, and the choices you have. By using LaunchKoala you agree to this policy alongside our terms.
2. What we collect
- Account: your name, email, and password (stored hashed), plus optional profile details like username, bio, website, and social handle.
- Submissions: the products, links, images, and text you submit, and the domain you verify with a badge.
- Activity: upvotes, comments, and newsletter preferences.
- Payments: for paid launches, we store the order, amount, status, and a provider reference id. Card and crypto details are handled by our payment providers — we never see or store them.
- Technical: a session token/cookie to keep you signed in, and basic request data (such as IP and user agent) used for security and abuse prevention.
3. How we use it
- To run the directory: create your account, list and rank products, and show your public profile.
- To review submissions, verify website ownership, and process paid launches.
- To send transactional email (verification, password resets, submission and payment updates) and, if you opt in, The Eucalyptus newsletter.
- To keep LaunchKoala safe — preventing spam, fraud, and abuse.
4. What’s public
Your listed products, maker profile (name/username and the details you add), upvotes, and comments are public by design. Don’t put anything in those fields you wouldn’t want shown. Your email and account credentials are never public.
5. Who we share it with
We don’t sell your personal data. We share it only with providers that help us run the service:
- Payment processors (NOWPayments for crypto, Wayl for cards) to take payment for priority launches.
- Our email/SMTP provider to deliver messages you’re due to receive.
- Our hosting and database infrastructure.
We may also disclose data where required by law or to protect the rights, safety, and property of LaunchKoala and its users.
6. Cookies
We use a small number of essential cookies — mainly to keep you signed in and to protect against cross-site request forgery. We don’t use advertising cookies.
7. Retention
We keep your data for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide the service. Payment order records are kept for as long as required for accounting, tax, and fraud-prevention purposes. When you delete your account, we remove or anonymize your personal data except where we’re required to retain it.
8. Your rights
Depending on where you live (including under GDPR and CCPA), you may have the right to access, correct, export, or delete your personal data, and to object to or restrict certain processing. You can edit most details on your profile, and you can contact us to request access or deletion. We don’t sell personal data, so there’s nothing to opt out of on that front.
9. Children
LaunchKoala isn’t intended for anyone under 16. We don’t knowingly collect data from children; if you believe a child has given us data, contact us and we’ll remove it.
10. Changes
We may update this policy as the product evolves. Material changes will be reflected here, and continued use after an update means you accept the current version.
